WSJ: Industry Pressed for Reduced Recall

With a tip of the hat to the Consumerist for its post on the story, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that USDA is still tracing 15 million of the record 143 million pounds of recalled after undercover video was shot showing slaughter house workers hitting downer cows with forklifts and forcing them into the slaughter box. According to the USDA, most of the recalled meat has probably already been consumed. The Journal also reported that the meat industry appeared to be pressing the USDA to scale back the recall. The USDA decided against narrowing the scope of the recall.
