Florida Today reports that the downturn in the economy may have one silver lining: the ability to buy sensitive habitat lands at a discount. In particular, the article mentions a strip of land in Brevard County that would connect Brevard, eastern Seminole and Orange counties to wild lands along the St. Johns River and the Ocala National Forest. Reed Noss, a biology professor at the University of Florida referred to the land as critical, noting "Unless we do something immediately, we could lose the scrub jay."
