Animal Cruelty charges filed in meat recall case
By now most people will have seen this story regarding the record recall of 143.4 million pounds of meat from the same California plant that caused Florida schools to stop serving cow meat ealier this month. The USDA indicated that much of the meat covered by the recall has already been eaten. In another strand of the same story, on Friday, the LA Times reported that 5 counts of animal cruelty were filed against one of the slaughterhouse workers at the plant. According to the story, he was one of the workers that was seen using forklifts, electric prods and high-pressure water hoses to force "downer" cows to their feet in the video shot by the Humane Society of the United States.
